For virtual hosts it's necessary to make a bridged network adapter. At least if you want your hosts to be on the same network as the rest of your machines.
To set static IP address on debian (or derivative distros) is straight forward. A workstation don't necessarily need to use static addresses, but it's unavoidable on a server.
I ran across a mailinglist with a post about the "map to guest" parameter. It describes it rather well.
====
samba defaults to "never" which the developers believe is a good idea.
however, i believe the default for NT4 is "Bad Password". would it not
make more sense to make the default the same as NT4 as most of the other
options do?
Concept
Build primarily as proof of concept and because I found the challenge interresting, this little unit is able to send an ascii string terminated with a CR/LF via a RS232 connection. It's emulating the transmission of a barcode and can be used with any kind of equipment that is expecting a barcode.
It's not as hard as it sounds, but there are a couple of things that you need to be aware of. I found the instructions on the Brother homepage to be somewhat incomplete, but luckily I found clues enough here and there to piece it all together.
In the install I have used the filenames for my printer model, these you should of course replace with your model.
For a long time I've been meaning to start working with microcontrollers. Even though I bought a STK500 development board a couple of years ago, I never really got started using it. Now I want to try again :)
For that purpose I bought the book Hardware und C-Programmierung in der Praxis. It's a german book giving the basics on microcontrollers. You should check it out. That is. If you understand german... Else I'm sure there are books available in english that can help you along.
In this book there is a description for a serial port programmer. And although I could use my STK500 as a programmer, I thought it could be interresting to build this one myself.
Here. Take a look at the schematic.
So my brother got these dark taillights for his BMW car. Unfortunately the bulb for the fog light is missing. Actually it isn't possible to install a bulb as it's not prepared for it.
Now I needed to solve this somehow. And as I've been meaning to look into LED lighting for some time I used this as an excuse to make one.
Foreword
After upgrading my server, some of the hardware has changed (naturally). This page describes my server layout as it is now.
OK, so I bought this car alarm. It's nice and all, but it has this really irritating habit of chirping every time I activate and deactivate the alarm. I keep odd hours, so I have no interest in bothering my neighbours with the chirping in the night.
Unfortunately there is no way to disable this feature.
